Sine I finally got my copy of NQ 10 and read the Grinder rules I thought it sounded like fun. However I have one bone to pick with PP over something. This is now the second peice in about 2 month that is exculsive through their website. I understand that it would be costly perhaps to sell in stores but personally I hate this trend.
Game stores have a hard time already having to compete with online shops that can sell for less since they have lower costs. But PP started off being very oppose to the idea of selling models themselves. GW has tranformed into boning all Rogue Traders so they can sell the model themselves. Since they can keep the mark up from their cost to retail (no middle man) it is a bigger profit for them. Seeing PP selling excuslive things through their site makes me fear they will head down this path.
I thought they learned their lesson from the Magnus pre-release when the retailing community was not happy they pre-sold the models by about 6 months through their website, cutting the sales from the stores for the people who wanted them.
What are you guys thoughts? Am I just paranoid since I feel GW is the best example of a good idea gone bad and fear that PP will walk down the same road at their rate? Granted I have a very bias opinon since I worked for the Guild for so long, and plan to one day have my own store, so seeing a company I love cut the middle man out pisses me off.

I think they said it was released in the online store first to try and gauge interest- if it really took off, which I seem to think it has, then they'll consider releasing it to stores to be sold. I get it, though I kinda dont like it- I'd much rather it be at the store.
If you want one, Im gonna put together an order as soon as I sell some of this excess Khador I have, and you can go in on it with me- Im getting one, and the new Dire Troll mauler XTREEEM!
They discussed the new DTM, as well. By the time they included shipping, distributors fees, and markup, it would be upwards of $100 to the customer. I think its perfectly reasonable for them to only offer the DTM through the website

The Dire troll model was an extreme (no pun intended) case by how much the sculpt cost to make as fox pointed out. I wouldn't be surprised to see the Grinder released in stores sooner rather than later. But Kako makes a valid point, if any more models come out that are Privateer website exclusive I will more than likely share his concern. Since I know as well as he does how hard it is for a game store to stay in business, heh. As things are right now I'm not terribly concerned, especially since a game like grind is likely to spawn all sorts of new molds if it takes off. Juggernauts with football helmets anyone? Anything like that would likely be released in stores.

I understand the reason fro the DTM model. That one didn't concern me. The Grinder was the one that worried me more since I can't see how the model would be that much to retail being $15 on the store and well, hallow for all purposes. Not saying that I won't buy a Grinder one day, but I think I will hold off till it makes it to stores perhaps. Until then I have a bouncy ball and a spare large base Granted that would mean I have to actually play WM On a slightly related note I think I finally decided the color scheme for my Legion after a long time of thinking about it. Perhaps I will have some pics one day of it.
